Puffy Eyed Morning.

I watched a great Australian movie last night. Black Balloon. About an average Aussie family whose oldest child has Autism. The story focuses in on the difficulties of the younger brother who struggles to cope with his obviously 'different' sibling. It is heart wrenching, thus the puffy eyes today. I sobbed at several scenes, and laughed at just as many. It is a confronting film, and for those of us with ASD children hardly uplifting. But I think it was handled with great sensitivity and realism. I'm not sure how easy it would be to obtain for those in other countries, but well worth the effort to track down.

PS. I have just been informed those in Australia who missed it last night can see Black Balloon for the next fortnight on Iview (whatever that is).

  1. I am in the U.S. I had to wait a while longer (and it hasn't been shown on t.v. that I've noticed), but I was able to borrow the video from Netflix.

It's definitely worth watching, but it's also a struggle. A particular cleaning scene left me gagging from the memories of the all-too-many times I've had to do that myself.

  2. Hey Stephanie, It's very much an 'Australian' type movie. But I figure you were able to appreciate the rawness of it. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

  3. I've only seen a few films that I've known were Australian and, though I've never considered it before, I think "raw" is a good description of the style. It's definitely different, but has it's advantages, too.
