Wondering How to Have 'The Talk'?

One of the trickiest things for parents of autistic kids can be how to broach the subject of their autism. When our kids enter school environments or are getting to the point of recognising they are a little different from the pack it can be difficult to know how best to have the autism talk. If you're currently facing this issue or wondering how to broach it in the future there's these great books by my awesomely talented friend Bec Oakley that could help.

Perhaps your child will recognise some of themselves in the characters or they will note the use of the word autism in the entertaining narratives? It might just help to kick start a conversation about your child's own diagnosis. And if not they'll still love these wonderful stories about Jake. Might also make great Christmas presses for other autism families you know. Anyway at the risk of sounding like a paid shill for Oakley Enterprises, I say consider buying these books. They are really, truly good. My kids love them.

You can get the books from Therapy Focus here, http://therapyfocus.org.au/support-us/shop.aspx and all the proceeds go to the Help A Child Grow Fund run by Therapy Focus, to provide equipment and services to kids with disabilities.

  1. Thanks Sharon! I'm so glad that your kids enjoyed the books. I should add that all the proceeds go to the Help A Child Grow Fund run by Therapy Focus, to provide equipment and services to kids with disabilities. Although I do like the sound of Oakley Enterprises, I should get to work on that :)

  2. Shaz; you need to install a share button for lazy people who are too attentionally challenged to copy & paste a link... Like me.
These look great so I will try not to be distracted for long enough to share on the Twittahs and such.
